Zoo Brno
Zoo Brno was good. Nothing mind-blowing overall, but still a solid visit.
First of all: this is not an easy zoo to walk. The whole place is built on a very steep hillside, and getting around was honestly pretty brutal. Lots of climbing, lots of slopes, and by the end it definitely felt in the legs. The setting is green and nice, but be prepared for a workout.
Enclosure quality is generally fine, and the park feels calm. From a species collector perspective, it’s actually stronger than it might first appear. They do keep several rare species, which makes it more interesting than a typical regional zoo and gives it real value for documentation and photography.
What makes it feel a bit underwhelming is mainly the comparison factor. Brno is the second-largest city in Czechia, which naturally invites comparison with Prague Zoo, and that’s a tough benchmark. Prague is on a completely different level, so Brno ends up feeling more modest than it probably deserves.
Overall, it’s a decent zoo with some genuinely uncommon species, worth visiting if you’re in Brno anyway. Just don’t expect Prague, and definitely don’t underestimate the hill.
