Vänermuseet / Lake Vänern Museum
This is a small local museum in Lidköping, located right on the shore of Vänern, Sweden’s largest lake. Most of the museum is what you’d expect from a regional museum, covering life around Lake Vänern from prehistoric times to today. There’s also a small aquarium section showing some of the fish species found in the lake.
From a species collector perspective, this is a very small collection and not particularly species-rich. Most of what’s on display are common local fish. Still, it’s a pleasant visit if you’re already interested in the rest of the museum (worth noting that almost everything is in Swedish).
Some of the species you can see here include common rudd (scardinius erythrophthalmus), bleak (alburnus alburnus), white bream (blicca bjoerkna), crucian carp (carassius carassius), brook trout (salvelinus fontinalis), maraena (coregonus maraena), and european cisco (coregonus albula).
Overall, it’s nice enough, but not a destination aquarium. For me, this was mainly about having seen it and documented it. Now that I’ve visited, I don’t really feel the need to come back.
